Selecting Shrubs That Fit Your Style

Often times when picking out new plants for landscaping, people overlook how great of an addition that shrubs can be. Two main reasons people steer away from shrubs is because they get too overgrown or they are too hard to maintain. Though, depending on the variety you choose it may actual be the opposite of that and easier to take care of than an annual or perennial.

To get started, it’s great to ask yourself a few questions to get a better idea of what type of area you have and style you want.

• Is the area most sunny or shaded?
• How big of an area do I have for the shrub?
• Do you want it to be flowering or nonflowering?
• What other plants are currently in the area?
• How much maintenance are you willing to put in?

While the list can go on, these are some of the top questions our team will ask to get an idea of what your options are. While every person has their own favorite look and style, some popular shrubs within the last few years have been hydrangeas, weigelas (shown in the photo), rose bushes, and barberries.
